BRIGHTBLACK MORNING LIGHT
Was founded by NAYNAY SHINEYWATER in January of 2004, as a well rounded collective, with fellow Alabama pianist RACHAEL HUGHES bringing the focus of music to have it's own natural sound.
"Our collective unifies around honoring & worshipping the undisturbed places in nature & is aligned with the Deep Ecology Movement that is growing in the American West."
Drawn to Northern California by an AMERICORPS program to restore creeks & streams on cattle ranches, pianist RACHAEL HUGHES soon secured an old wood shed for the band to meet in Marin County.
A road nearby this wood shed sees a regular migration of newts & after noticing this, both Naybob & Raybob were instrumental in
pointing the mass migration out to a few ranchers, who in turn acted to close a lane of the road during newt migration.
NICE ACTION!
Eventually settling in Marin County the 2 musicians also worked on organic farms & the Oakland Farmer's Market, wineries, baking bread, even collecting free range chicken eggs.
The whole BBML music story is one of living outside in camp mode or on the side of the road, often times with many good friends stopping by.
The rural music festivals around this time curated by NAYNAY SHINEYWATER featured the likes of northern California harpist Joanna Newsom,
French-American Avant Pop band Women & Children, Lungfish's Daniel Higgs, Micheal Hurley of Holy Modal Rounders,

Recording music is still a luxury, yet BBML arrived in the studio only twice out of over 8 years on the road across the USA.
For the WINTER 2009 European Tour NayNay SHINEYWATER invited LA's noise experimental band
Voices Voices to join in on percussion for over 30 shows across Europe. (Pianist Ms. Rachael Hughes was not able to attend Europe 2009)
